Altair 5 by Balthaser Altair 5 by Balthaser
The Altair 5 is a mediocre transport shuttle. It is capable of atmospheric entry and sits 2 personnel. It has good maximum velocity and has an average yaw/pitch roll rating. It is lightly armored with advanced cermets but requires fairly regular maintenance after a couple or so atmospheric entries. It does not have any peripheral port(s) for weapons & sensors. The Altair 5 is also not capable of having an afterburner but is occassionally seen outfitted with catalysts such as HvperCatalyst to reduce ozone emissions. It has a 28-unit cargo hold, expandable to 32. There are no external camera systems and the Altair 5 MFD is an array of ergonomically placed panel monitors.

I've not been playing with 3DS Max as much as before so I decided to do something today - come up with something within a few hours. This design wasn't planned ( like my other stuff anyway =x ), it's a "just make a box and extrude till you see something coming" strategy.

This was done in 3DS Max 6.

Thanks fer peekin !! =3

pretty cool design. couple bits of advice, though. the lighting is coming from all directions and for that reason there are no shadows to distinguish surface details. if you put the light at the side we could see differences in value between different planes, and see the design more clearly. also, work on adding little details. good work though.

Wahh! Kinda' like a poor mans transporter.. :lol:.. You should put a rusty texture with cracks. Then make a scene of it breaking down on takeoff.. with smoke and shiiat. hehe..;)

Also, I figured while other users make super huge/powerful vehicles/starships/mechs, I'll balance it out with crappy civilian ones xD

How long? Ummm, no idea! ^^;
Usually i start with a fairly small box.... Hmm, maybe i'll do a little image sequence showing how i model, sometime.
